Architects' Statement


Ray Huff and Mario Gooden formed Huff + Gooden Architects LLC in 1997 in Charleston, South Carolina. The firm is now based in New York City.


In 2001 Huff and Gooden were recognized by the Architectural League of New York with the distinguished honor of “Emerging Voices.” Huff + Gooden Architects was simultaneously recognized by Architectural Record Magazine as one of six leading firms practicing exceptional architecture outside the “...Centers of Fashion.”


Huff + Gooden Architects work has been exhibited at the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi), the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, the Municipal Arts Society in New York, the 11th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2006 and the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2014. In 2009 the firm was selected by the City of New York for Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Design and Construction Excellence Program. Recently the firm was selected to design the $67million renovation and expansion to the California African American Museum as well as a major urban redevelopment in the Maboneng Precinct in downtown Johannesburg, South Africa.
